Approved - Moving On

I must start off with a MEGA grande thank you to all who have commented to our posts, written emails, prayed for us, etc! Just having contact with a world outside of our B&B and Cali, Colombia is so vital. In the tough times, just knowing loved ones are praying for us fortifies us. Today, I know I have felt more collected and focused thinking upon the things written to us and I am certain the same goes for Karl. It was a busy day so this is our first opportunity to check in since last night but seeing so many kind messages and words of encouragement has sure ministered to my heart. Thank you.

We woke up and the water line had broken so we had no water! But after breakfast, we loaded up the backpack and went to Rita's home (another sister of our host) to take a brief swim in the kiddie pool and even Andres got in and had a blast! Then we all showered there too -thank goodness!

Then we came back and ate lunch and then the dreaded NAPTIME came . . . We only had time for a brief nap today because of our appointment at ICBF and needing extra to get all five of gussied up. But, naptime didn't go well for anyone but Andres who can sleep through anything once he's down. We told Anji "no musica" - her little doll plays music when she pushes the belly - she knows the routine and that she's not allowed to do that during nap/bedtime. Well, with a big smile on her face, she pushed it. I said "no musica" and she did it again with a chuckle and so we took dollie away. Well, she threw a huge fit and wailed the whole time they were supposed to nap and so that kept Claudia up too. Anyway, she was fine after that time was happy again. We have many dramatic ups and downs. One minute, they are blowing us kisses, & the next, stiff-arming us. We are getting more used to it though and it is taking us less by surprise and we are talking in advance about how to handle the next encounter.

So, our appointment at ICBF today went very well. They seemed very happy with us as new parents and said they were happy to hear things were going as well as they are - they were quite happy to hear about the progress with Andres and also could tell the girls were very attached to us as well. It was a good meeting and we were able to ask questions and had a much better interpreter this time so the exchange was clear and concise. So, we were approved to end our "integration period" and move on to our process within the Colombian courts to finalize the adoption. We pray that this process will go smoothly and quickly. We were told in the car by our interpreter & helper that Anji said to the effect, "I am very happy to have Papi & Mami as our permanent parents . . . so when are we going to get on a plane and go home?" Wow.

Karl is still feeling rough but thankfully we both slept well last night so that helped. Today has been pretty tiring so we will hit the hay soon and hopefully rest well again. By the way, my bites still itch but I am putting stuff on them including Laura's suggestion to put Vicks on the bites and the itching is a tiny bit better. Also, I bought bug spray and am now spraying myself down for bedtime to help prevent bites!

Glad to hear that you are moving along in the process and that your day went better. I'll be praying for naptime specifically and for Anji's attitude. We prayed for you guys tonight at our MOPS steering meeting - we mommies care about you! :)

YAY!! Congrats and hopefully you will get a fast court. Glad to hear the Vicks is helping. It sounds strange...but it works. I would also check and see about the allegra at the pharmacy too. Many things available only by Rx here in the US are available over the counter down there. And it also depends on the city. We got some antibiotics in Medellin without an Rx but in Bogota we could not.

You guys are doing great! The kids are being kids and aren't on their best behavior for you...which is a very good sign, however challenging it may be for you. :)

Peoria is once again blankted in snow! Aren't you excited to see what your kids will think of the cold, white stuff?! Metamora had a "snow day" on Tuesday so the girls and I thought that was a great excuse to make cookies! You'll soon be doing these kinds of things with your little ones and making all sorts of memories in the process! :)

Know that we read your blogs and pray for you all daily!

Much love,
The Hodges

I am glad things have gone a little better. I have a book "Praying the Scriptures for your Children" that has been a huge encouragement to me as a parent. I want to share on of the prayers/scripture that you might want to be praying. "Let the children keep our commands and never forsake our teaching. Let them bind them upon their hearts forever and fasten them around their neck. When they walk, let our teaching guide them; when they sleep, let it watch over them; when they wake, let our words speak to them. Let them regard our instruction and our commands as a guiding lamp; let them welcome our correction as the way to life." Proverbs 6:20-23

I hope Karl feels much better soon! We love you!

So thankful that this process can move forward, and we will pray that it is quickly.

We continue to pray for you. You are doing well, and the adjustments sound pretty normal as you all get to know each other and the roles you have.

Today (Wednesday) we will pray specifically for rest time.

Thank you for letting us be a part of your journey!

Thanks for keeping us updated on how things are going and for sharing the photo album's! It's SO great to see the 5 of you starting out on this new adventure / season of life!

I will keep praying for you as you all adjust to eachother and also that the court proceedings will go smoothly and quickly and that soon you will be able to 'get on a plane and go home'! Hang in there - you're almost there!!!!

Way to go with being consistent and keeping your word (with the dolly)...sometimes kids just try to see how much they can get away with and if they can push our buttons :) You guys are doing a great job--keeping your eyes focused on the Lord and communicating between each other is huge!

I'm so thankful that your appt went well--Praise God!--how exciting and confirming that must have been for you to hear that Anji could express how much she loves you!

take care and God bless your day!

love, Lisa H

Wow, things are moving quickly! Amen! May you be strengthened and God continue to encourage you daily...may you sleep well with little nuisance from pesty pests...mosquitos, and the like. I pray that Karl be rejuvenated and health return to 100%!

Some of the same stories you share, I can totally relate, but trust me, it gets better. When you walk thru your door at home, after your first meltdown at home, when you are in YOUR environment, and they are stripped of all that is familiar to them, except you-- they will cling to you; of course, you may still have some challenges, but God is good and He will give you, Mami and Papi the wisdom to handle those situations when they occur...

May the peace of God fall upon you and yours this night, and everything move expeditiously!

I'm so thankful your appointment went well. :) I'll continue to be in prayer for the Lord to give you two the wisdom and patience in dealing with your children in all of these situations. It sure sounds like they love you already and are getting very attached. :)

Love to you all,
Nicole
