Nothing went "as planned" but thankfully we did close on both houses.
It was an incredibly stressful week trying to tie up all the loose ends at the old house and in our old city. Things took longer than planned and I only had time for a couple of the errands I really needed to do: pick up girls replacement glasses, get an Rx, and pick up money waiting for me at a local store. The rest of the time was spent gathering items and marking them "important" or gathering whatever we needed to take with us. We also had to pack up all the items they would not take - which turned out to be a lot. The packing and loading went pretty well - it took a long time and was tiring for all of us - but the people who did it were professional and did a good job.
When we had not heard from the realtor, I called to check in. She reluctantly told me that something was wrong and the closing was going to be set back a bit...to make a very long & agonizing story short - our buyer did not have certain paperwork in on time which caused a delay and wasn't going to be present for the actual closing and because of several issues, his closing documents and thus MONEY were not going to be present either! We went ahead and signed all of our papers and then traveled to our new town and did our walk-thru (the condition of the house was great) and got the confirmed dreaded news that the seller was not going to relinquish keys for move-in until he had "the funds."
We had to notify the moving company and tell them we did not have access and they held the truck and waited to hear from us.
The second closing was the next morning and we signed all of the papers and talked about worst-case scenarios because we had no guarantee when the papers would show up and when the wired money would arrive. At 11 a.m., two hours after the start of our appointment, the money did arrive. We were so relieved but very disappointed as well. We really wanted to move in on Friday as planned. It was hard to explain to the kids what was happening and why we had to stay in another hotel.

We did get the keys after all on Friday but it was way too late to have the movers come. We went to the new house and looked around and gave the kids a fun tour. We sat down and talked about how thankful we were for the new house and took turns praying and thanking the Lord for His provision. I put all of our perishables into the new refrigerator and Karl unloaded the miscellaneous stuff from our rented trailer. After returning the trailer, we went to our hotel.
So, Saturday the movers brought all of our household goods to our new house and it took until 4 pm to unload. The rest of our evening was spent trying to find stuff for survival, eat creatively, make beds, etc.
Sunday was much of the same although we had to shift gears a bit to pack for a week-long business trip...
I am so glad that the kids and I are with Karl rather than drowning in a disorderly sea of boxes and frustration.
This weekend, we will mercilessly attack the boxes and hopefully make abundant progress towards setting up our new household!

I've been praying for your family, sorry you had the mix up but so glad that it was fixed.
Praying for all of you as you settle into your new home. Praying that the Lord would continue to guide your family in your new place. How cool for the kids that you could pray over the house - I think they will remember that.
Miss you.
Missin' you guys alot. Unpacking boxes sounds like a blast, come on! :-)
Thank you for the update! Hope you have a great weekend unpacking. I know the unpacking gets tiring but the organized house on the other end of the boxes is great! :) Our kids also loved all the boxes to play in. . .
Much love, Debbie Jo
What a test of patience. Glad to see you made it through!
